ONLINE PROCEDURE TO GET AN ECUADORIAN RESIDENCE VISA

NOTE: Minors must complete this procedure through their legal representatives or authorized agents, as applicable.

After submitting the visa application, the first online payment must be made.

NOTE: This payment covers the application submission and document review. The user will receive email notifications as the process progresses, along with the electronic invoice for the payment made. The visa type must be selected correctly, as this payment is non-refundable.

Confirmation and Process Tracking

Check the application status in the system.

You can access your file to obtain a summary of the process.

Correction Process

* If the information submitted is incomplete or incorrect, you will receive a notification.

Follow the instructions and upload the requested documentation.

The time stipulated in the regulations for completing this process is 10 business days.

If applicable, CESDI will inform you whether or not an in-person or virtual interview is required.

Payment: Once the application is approved, you can pay for the visa and national identity card, depending on the type of visa requested. For now, payment can only be made online; in-person payment options at authorized bank branches will be added later.

You will receive an email notification of the payment along with electronic invoices for the amounts paid.

What is the cost of the process?
Visa application: USD $50, Visa issuance: USD $270. No VAT is applicable.
A 50% discount applies nationwide for senior citizens (65 years and older).
A 100% discount applies nationwide for people with a disability of 30% or more,
upon presentation of the disability card issued by the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador

TEMPORARY RESIDENCE VISA FOR REMOTE WORK (NOMAD VISA)

 

Granting of a temporary residence visa for remote work (Nomad Visa)

Temporary residence permit for rentiers granted by the Ecuadorian State to foreign nationals who own their own business or work for one or more legal entities or individuals domiciled abroad, to carry out professional or service activities remotely, digitally, or through teleworking. It is issued at the Zonal Directorates in Ecuador, Ecuadorian Embassies (Consular Section), or Ecuadorian Consulates abroad.

The beneficiaries are all foreign citizens who intend to settle in the country to work remotely, whether they own a business or work for one or more legal entities or individuals domiciled abroad, to carry out professional or service activities remotely, digitally, or through teleworking.

Target audience: Foreign Individuals.

Mandatory Requirements:
A recent color photograph in JPG format, maximum 1 MB, 5 x 5 cm (2 x 2 inches), with a white background. The facial expression should be neutral (preferably), or with a natural smile, and both eyes open.

A valid passport with a minimum validity period of six (6) months.

An original criminal record certificate from the country of origin or from any country where the applicant has resided during the last five years, translated, apostilled, or legalized. One hundred and eighty (180) days of validity will be considered, counted from the date of issuance of the certificate until the applicant's last entry into the country. Certificates issued by federal governments will be valid as long as they cover criminal records at the national level. This document is required only for persons over 18 years of age.

Payment of the fee set by the human mobility authority; and,
Other documents that the authority may require in certain cases.

Special Requirements:
Demonstrate foreign-source income of at least three (3) Unified Basic Salaries per month for the three (3) months prior to the visa application, or a total of thirty-six (36) Unified Basic Salaries per year.
To demonstrate this, the foreign national must attach copies of their international bank statements reflecting said income.

Attach documents demonstrating that the visa applicant works or provides services to a foreign employer, client, or company domiciled abroad, performing independent or dependent professional activities remotely, digitally, or through teleworking.

This visa may also be applied for by those who present documentation demonstrating ownership of a company registered and domiciled abroad.

Nationals of the countries on the list to be prepared by the Ministry of Tourism may apply for this visa (ALL COUNTRIES, Official Letters No. MT-MINTUR-2022-0920-OF and MT-MINTUR-2022-1173-OF, dated February 24 and March 14, 2022, respectively).

You must present valid national or foreign health insurance for the same period as the visa. If the insurance is with a foreign company, the policy or contract must indicate coverage in Ecuador. In order for the holder of this category to be able to cover other people, he must justify additional monthly income of two hundred and fifty (250) US dollars for each person covered.

PERMANENT RESIDENCE VISA FOR A FOREING MINOR OR PERSON WITH A DISABILITY

Permanent residence permit granted by the Ecuadorian State to foreign minors or persons with disabilities who are dependents of an Ecuadorian citizen or a foreigner with permanent residence and who intend to settle in the country. It is issued through Ecuadorian Diplomatic Missions or Consular Offices abroad and at the Regional Offices within Ecuador.

Who is it for?

A birth certificate issued by a competent authority verifying the applicant's age, apostilled or legalized as applicable;

In the case of foreign nationals with disabilities, a document certifying the disability status issued by the competent institution or authority, duly apostilled or legalized as applicable; and, when the legal representation of a foreign national who is a minor or has a disability is not exercised by the person on whom they depend, a power of attorney granted by the legal representative authorizing the visa application must be submitted.

The Zonal Offices or Consulates of Ecuador may summon the applicant for the immigration category and/or their legal representatives for an interview to verify the information submitted or request information related to the process.

TEMPORARY INVESTOR RESIDENCE VISA


Temporary residence permit granted by the Ecuadorian State to foreigners who invest in property or economic resources of lawful origin to carry out productive and commercial activities, legal representation, attorneys, and administrative positions. This type of visa has no time limit on the length of stay abroad and allows the holder multiple admissions to the country. It is issued through Ecuadorian Diplomatic Missions or Consular Offices abroad and through the Zonal Directorates in Ecuador.


All foreign citizens who invest in property or economic resources of lawful origin to carry out productive and commercial activities, legal representation, attorneys, and administrative positions with the intention of establishing themselves to carry out lawful investor activities with regular immigration status.


Addressed to: Natural Person - Foreigner.


Mandatory Requirements:

  • Updated color photograph in JPG format (maximum 1 MB), 5 x 5 cm (2 x 2 inches), with a white background. Neutral facial expression (preferably) or a natural smile, with both eyes open;

  • Valid passport valid for a minimum of six (6) months;

  • Original criminal record certificate from the country of origin or where the applicant has resided during the last five years, translated, apostilled, or legalized. One hundred and eighty (180) days of validity will be counted, counting from the date of issuance of the certificate until the applicant's last entry into the country. Certificates issued by federal governments will be valid as long as they cover the national criminal record. This document is required only for persons over 18 years of age.

  • Payment of the fee set by the human mobility authority; and
    Other documents required by the authority as appropriate.

  • Proof of legal means of subsistence in accordance with Ministerial Agreement No. 70, of June 28, 2024.

Special Requirements:

  • Deed, policy, or certificate of deposit with a minimum term of seven hundred thirty (730) days, issued by a credit institution recognized by the Superintendency of Banks or the Superintendency of the Popular and Solidarity Economy, for an amount equivalent to and no less than one hundred (100) unified basic salaries of the general worker; or

  • Deed of sale of a property located in national territory, in which the owner is stated, registered in the Property Registry of the respective canton, and with a value no less than one hundred (100) unified basic salaries; or,

  • Document proving ownership of shares or interests in an Ecuadorian company, for an amount not less than one hundred (100) unified basic salaries, duly registered with the Superintendency of Companies, Securities, and Insurance.

  • Copy of a current public deed of the investment contract signed with the Ecuadorian State; or

  • Copy of a current deed of delegated management signed with entities of the central or decentralized autonomous governments; or

  • Copy of the contract. Copy of any administrative contract of any nature signed with the State.

TEMPORARY RESIDENCE VISA IN ECUADOR FOR RETIREES

Temporary residence permit granted by the Ecuadorian State to retired foreigners who wish to settle in the country and whose source of income is their retirement pension from public or private institutions located abroad. It is issued at the Zonal Directorates in Ecuador, Embassies (Consular Section) or Consulates of Ecuador abroad.


WHO IS IT ADDRESSSED TO ?

All foreign citizens who intend to settle in the country, who receive a pension from abroad whose amount allows them to cover the expenses of their stay.


ADDRESSED TO: Natural Person - Foreigner.


WHAT DO I NEED TO COMPLETE TO PROCEDURE?


Mandatory Requirements:

Color photograph in JPG format, maximum one MB, 5 x 5 cms (2 x 2 inches), updated, with a white background, the facial expression must be neutral (preferably), or have a natural smile, with both eyes open.

Valid passport with a minimum validity period of six (6) months.

Original certificate of criminal records from the country of origin or where you have resided during the last five years, translated, apostilled or legalized. One hundred and eighty (180) days of validity will be taken into account, counted from the date of issue of the certificate until the last entry of the interested party into the country. Certificates issued by federal governments will be valid as long as they cover criminal records at the national level. Document required only for persons over 18 years of age.

Payment of the fee set by the human mobility authority; and,

Other documents that the authority requires in the cases that merit it.

Certify lawful means of livelihood in accordance with Ministerial Agreement No. 70, dated June 28, 2024.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be granted the category of retiree, in addition to the general requirements contemplated in the Organic Law of Human Mobility, the official supporting document that accredits the category of retiree must be presented, granted by the competent institution abroad that certifies the monthly payment of the pension from abroad for retirement in favor of the applicant, equal to or greater than three Unified Basic Salaries of the worker in general. This document must be apostilled if it has been issued in a country that is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention; and legalized if it has been issued in a country that is not a party to said convention.


Additionally, you must present national or foreign health insurance valid for the same period of the visa. If you are contracted with a foreign company, the policy or contract must indicate that you have coverage in Ecuador.


In order for the holder of this category to be able to cover other people, you must justify additional monthly income of two hundred and fifty (250) US dollars for each person covered.

1. Registration in the eVISAS System To access visa services, the applicant must register in the eVISAS system, fulfilling the established requirements. Likewise, they must accept the Responsibility Agreement regarding the use of information and the conditions of service, by which they declare the veracity of the data provided and authorize the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility to process their personal data.


2. The official supporting document that accredits the retiree category must be presented, granted by the competent institution abroad that certifies the monthly payment of the pension from abroad for retirement in favor of the applicant, equal to or greater than three Unified Basic Salaries of the worker in general.” Minimum Wage Ecuador 2026 Amount: $482.00 per month. Bank statements or certifications with an electronic signature issued abroad, will be valid to prove lawful means of support, without requiring an apostille or legalization. In cases where documents do not have an electronic signature, they must be notarized and legalized or apostilled, as appropriate.

These documents must be valid for one hundred and eighty (180) days.
